Am I Ready for Sex?

Messages about sex are everywhere, and often portray conflicting messages. Sex sells. The media often adds sex to the mix. The people in your life may pressure you to have or to not have sex. Ultimately, the decision is yours and yours alone. There isn't a magic formula to help us decide when the right time is to be sexually active. Deciding if, when, and with whom you want to have sex can be tough decisions.

Losing My Virginity

Thinking about the following questions truthfully and honestly may help you know what is right for you:

  1. Am I actually ready?
  2. What are my reasons for wanting to have sex?
  3. What are my reasons for NOT wanting to have sex?
  4. What effects will sex have on the relationship?
  5. What are the Pros and Cons?

Abstinence

You might decide that you want to be abstinent! That is perfectly alright! Abstinence means not having vaginal, oral, or anal sex with a partner. Complete abstinence is the only way to guarantee that you won't get pregnant and/or get a Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infection (STBBI). You can choose to be abstinent even if you have had sex before. Many people choose abstinence based on religious, cultural, and/or personal beliefs. Learn more about Abstinence!
